Precision Gravity Die Casting foundry for High-Quality Castings
Conex Casting offers a host of parts made on our Gravity Die casting (GDC) machines. Aluminium Gravity Die Casting (GDC) is a permanent mold casting process used to manufacture high-quality, precision-engineered Aluminium parts. Unlike pressure die casting, gravity die casting relies on the natural force of gravity to fill the mold, resulting in denser, stronger, and more dimensionally accurate castings.
We specialize in custom aluminium GDC solutions, offering high-precision castings for automotive, aerospace, electrical, industrial, and marine applications. With our state-of-the-art casting facilities, we ensure superior quality, excellent surface finish, and cost-effective production.
What is Aluminium Gravity Die Casting (GDC)?
Gravity Die Casting is a metal casting process where molten aluminium is poured into a steel or cast iron mold (die) under gravity without external pressure. The molten metal fills the cavity and solidifies, forming a high-strength aluminium part. The use of reusable molds makes GDC efficient for medium-to-high-volume production.
Key Advantages of Gravity Die Casting:
✔ Higher Strength & Density – Produces denser, stronger parts compared to sand casting.
✔ Superior Surface Finish – Requires less post-processing, reducing costs.
✔ Dimensional Accuracy – Provides tighter tolerances and better repeatability.
✔ Suitable for Complex Shapes – Ideal for thin-walled and detailed parts.
✔ Better Heat & Corrosion Resistance – Ideal for automotive, marine, and industrial applications.
Aluminium Gravity Die Casting Process
The GDC process involves six key steps:
1. Die Preparation
- The permanent steel mold (die) is preheated and coated with a graphite or ceramic release agent to ensure easy part ejection and longer mold life.
2. Molten Aluminium Pouring
- High-quality molten aluminium alloy is poured into the mold cavity under gravity.
- Pouring is done manually or via automated ladles to ensure precise filling and minimal turbulence.
3. Solidification & Cooling
- The aluminium cools and solidifies inside the mold, forming the desired shape.
- Proper cooling reduces internal stresses and improves metallurgical properties.
4. Ejection of Cast Component
- The mold is opened, and the casting is removed using an ejector mechanism.
- The solidified aluminium part is now ready for trimming and finishing.
5. Trimming & Removal of Excess Material
- Sprues, runners, and flash (excess material) are removed using mechanical trimming or machining.
- This ensures clean edges and precise dimensions.
6. Surface Finishing & Quality Inspection
- The final part undergoes various finishing processes (sandblasting, machining, anodizing).
- Each casting is inspected for defects, porosity, and dimensional accuracy before dispatch.
